What it does

Everything between you and the right GIF, removed.

Skip the browser tab, the saved file, and the drag across your screen. Quip keeps the search, your favorites, and the GIFs you already used one click away from wherever you're typing.

Search and copy

Search Giphy, click, and it's copied

Type a search in the menu bar and click any result to copy it as an animated file. Then paste it wherever you'd paste an image. No download, no drag and drop.

Favorites and recently copied

The one you reach for twice a day, always there

Star a GIF to keep it one click away. Quip also remembers the GIFs you actually used, so your go-to reactions sit at the top of the popover, waiting.

Collections

Group your favorites into named buckets

Sort your starred GIFs into collections. Give each one an emoji, drag to reorder them, and sort them A to Z. The reaction folder you always wanted.

Three sizes

As wide as you want, no jumping around

Switch between two, three, and five GIFs per row. Every size is the same height, so only the width changes.

Recent searches

Click a past search to run it again, no retyping.

Start at login

Quip is in the menu bar the moment you sign in.

Updates built in

New versions arrive through Sparkle, signed and notarized.

Your own key

Quip runs on your free Giphy key, so you never share a rate limit.

One-time setup

Bring your own Giphy key

Quip ships without an API key. You add your own free key from Giphy, which takes about a minute. The upside: you're never behind someone else's rate limit, and the key never leaves your Mac.

  1. Open the Giphy developers dashboard

Go to the Giphy developers dashboard and sign in, or make a free account.

  2. Create an app and pick the API option

Giphy nudges you toward the SDK, but Quip needs a plain API key. Choose API, then copy the key it gives you.

  3. Paste the key into Quip's Settings

Open Quip's Settings and paste the key into the Giphy API Key field. That's the whole setup.
